Job Title: HEAD COOK

Supervises: Second Cooks and Student Cafeteria Workers

 

Job Goal: To serve the students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness and warmth.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability needed for the position.

  2. Must have some knowledge of accounting and record keeping.
  3. Must work well with others.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Supervise and evaluate assistant cook.
  1. Make application for government surplus food for school cafeteria use.
  1. Plan and supervise the preparation and serving of the menus at the school.
  1. Inspect school lunch facilities and operations to insure that standards of diet, cleanliness, health, and safety are maintained.
  1. Prepare and assist the principal with the cafeteria budget.
  1. Makes use of lists furnished by the Oregon School lunch program in menu preparation in serving Class A lunch.
  1. Directs and instructs student cafeteria workers.
  1. Keep records, accounts, and other necessary forms not forwarded to secretary.
  1. Completes other job assignments as prepared by the principal or superintendent.
  1. Supervises and instructs kitchen personnel in the safe, proper, and efficient use of all kitchen equipment.
  1. Maintains the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.
  1. Checks food shipments into the school, signing invoices only after each order has been verified.
  1. Determines the quantities of each food to be served daily.
  1. Determines the size of serving to meet the necessary age requirements.
  1. Prepares food according to a planned menu and tested, uniform recipes, and determine if the finished product is of best quality both in flavor and appearance before it is served.
  1. Records all food requisitions from the storeroom and records all meals served, designating with milk or not.
  1. Oversees the locking of the storeroom and the maintaining of the correct monthly inventory.
  1. Orders on a regular basis all necessary supplies.
  1. Reports immediately to the principal any problems or accidents occurring in the kitchen or the cafeteria premises.
  1. Confers with the principal regarding any personnel problems.
  1. Supervises the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment and the washing and sterilizing of all dishes, silverware, and utensils.
  1. Assumes responsibility for storage and disposal of unused food.
  1. Must keep up to date on (and make available to others) training films available through the State Department.
  1. Complete other job assignments as assigned by Building Administrator or Superintendent.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:

* Valid Oregon Driver’s License

* Valid Food Handlers Card

* Bloodborn Pathogen Training

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Salary to be according to current salary schedule agreed upon in the Classified Collective Bargaining Agreement.

 

EVALUATION:

 

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the building principal.
