Job Title: MIDDLE SCHOOL ASSISTANT COACH
Reports To: Head Coach
Evaluated By: Athletic Director and High School Principal
JOB GOAL:
1. Help each participating student to achieve a high level of skill and knowledge of the sport.
2. Instill in the participants an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship.
3. Help students achieve an increased level of self-esteem.
4. Develop a positive working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents, and community.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.
1. Possess a valid First Aid Card
2. Completion of an annual Bloodborn Pathogen course.
3. Possess a high level of competence, which may include prior participation in the sport, prior coaching experience, and completion of courses and /or clinics sufficient to provide the knowledge and skill to meet the performance responsibilities described below.
4. Has experience teaching, working with, and/or coaching students of high school age.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Encourage good sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship, and desirable pupil-teacher relationships.
2. Plan for and conduct, or assist in organized practice sessions which actively involve all participants in conditioning, skill development, and play practice.
3. Teach students the skills and strategies necessary to participate in the sport.
4. Teach the drills and exercises needed for developing strength, stamina, and speed in the sport.
5. Ensure the development of lines of communication with parents, students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
6. Inform students and parents in writing as to training rules, practice requirements and overall school athletic policies no later than the first day of practice.
7. Assist with the proper care, maintenance and security of facilities, equipment, and supplies.
8. Take responsibility for the conduct of all players and managers while under his/her jurisdiction, at home or away.
9. Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the participants.
10. Adhere to the school and district regulations and policies regarding the conduct of coaches and student eligibility in middle school sports.
11. Assist in making sure that a student is eligible for initial participation in the sport before the issuance of equipment or participation in practice.
12. Assist in keeping a record of all injuries and reports information to the Athletic Director’s office and the Office of the Principal if an athlete may require medical attention.
13. Work constructively with colleagues and others for the purpose of improving the quality of an athlete’s behavior and academic success.
14. If applicable, oversee all fundraising activities related to his/her sport to ensure that all Board policies and regulations are being followed.
15. Assist in the development of the Team Handbook.
16. Enforce the expectations for student athletes as expressed in the Neah-Kah-Nie Junior High School Student Handbook.
17. Adhere to policies and procedures as expressed in the Neah-Kah-Nie Jr/Sr High School Coaches Handbook.
18. Perform such other tasks as may be assigned by the Board or administration.

* Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance
* Valid First Aid Card
* Bloodborne Pathogen Training

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
A one-year contract renewed at the discretion of the Board of Directors. Salary to be according to the current salary schedule and extra-duty schedule agreed upon in the Certified Collective Bargaining Agreement.
EVALUATION:
The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Athletic Director.
